Prof Helen Beebee, Associate Director
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Prof Helen Beebee as Associate Director.
Helen Beebee has been a Professor at the University of Birmingham since 2005, and has previously held positions at Edinburgh, St. Andrews, UCL, ANU and Manchester. She is a member of the AHRC Advisory Board and an honorary professor at the Centre for Time, University of Sydney. She was Director of the British Philosophical Association from 2007-11.
Helen's research encompasses a range of related topics in metaphysics, epistemology and the history of philosophy, and mostly engages with issues relating to ‘Humeanism’. Recently she has worked on freedom of the will (defending compatibilism), natural kinds (criticising heavy-duty essentialism), the problem of induction (in connection with a Humean account of laws), and Hume himself (in particular, developing a ‘projectivist’ interpretation of his work on causation). She has published in many international journals including Nous, Mind, Philosophy & Phenomenological Research, The Journal of Philosophy and Analysis, is the author of Hume on Causation (Routledge 2006) and co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Causation (with Chris Hitchcock and Peter Menzies, OUP 2009).
ENDS.
